Pangram Labs, Inc. ("Pangram," "Pangram Labs," "we," "us"), operates web-based tools at Pangram.com to identify AI content, helping educators, content moderators, and publishers preserve integrity (the "Services").
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect Personal Information submitted to, or collected by our Services. Personal Information is any information that identifies, describes, or relates to a specific individual or household, or can reasonably be linked to them, directly or indirectly ("Information").
The Policy describes your choices related to your data rights (e.g. data use, access, and changes) and applies to all our customers ("Customers," "you," "your"), such as individual subscribers, organizations, or educational institutions, and their Users ("Users"), such as employees, teachers, or students.
Pangram complies with all applicable and relevant laws, and is committed to being transparent about our data practices.
Beyond this Privacy Policy, your use of our Services is also subject to our Terms of Service.
By using our Services, you agree to the collection, use, disclosure, and procedures this Privacy Policy describes.
When you or your Users use our Services, engage with us, interact with our website, or submit information to us in any other way, we may collect Personal Information.
When an account is registered to you or your Users, information such as name, email address, password, and place of employment may be collected.
If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you, such as your name, email address, phone number, the contents of a message or attachments that you may send to us, and other information you choose to provide. If you subscribe to our newsletter, then we will collect certain information from you, such as your email address.
If you decide that you wish to apply for a job with us, you may submit your contact information and your resume online. We will collect the information you choose to provide on your resume, such as your education and employment experience.
When paying for our Services, transaction history and billing information processed by third-party integration with Stripe may be collected. We do not store complete payment card details.
Pangram does not sell, rent, or unnecessarily store and/or process the data we collect. We use your data for the following purposes:
Service Provision: To provide services to our Customers and Users such as our AI detection tool and our browser plugin, and facilitating institutional review of works submitted to Customer accounts by their Users.
Customer Support: To provide Customers with support, when requested. Pangram may access user submission data to diagnose and fix reported issues with the services provided.
Security and Maintenance: To troubleshoot, debug, and maintain the security and performance of our Services and website.
Business Transfers: We may share or transfer Personal Information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
Legal Compliance: When we are compelled to by legal or regulatory obligations, we will share personal information to respond to any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
Our data retention policy is designed to prioritize data privacy and intellectual property rights. We retain data only as long as necessary to serve you (our Customers and their Users). Pangram does NOT claim an indefinite, perpetual royalty.
Content submitted to registered accounts is securely deleted within thirty (30) days of the Customer account being closed, or as defined in the terms of the Customer agreement.
We will retain your personal information for the length of time needed to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. You may request for your data to be deleted by emailing privacy@pangram.com
To operate our Services, Pangram Labs engages trusted third-party vendors who provide infrastructure hosting, analytics, authentication, payment processing, customer support, and other services. These providers are contractually bound to use personal data only for the purpose of delivering services on our behalf, and only under strict confidentiality and security obligations.
We perform diligence and monitoring to ensure these partners meet our security and privacy standards as well as all legal requirements.
For example, we use industry-leading services like Amazon Web Services for secure data hosting and Stripe for payment processing.
We make reasonable efforts to protect your information by using physical and electronic safeguards designed to improve the security of the information we maintain. However, because no electronic transmission or storage of information can be entirely secure, we can make no guarantees as to the security or privacy of your information.
Where our Services are utilized with students under the age of thirteen, or otherwise below the applicable age of consent, we require Customers to obtain necessary verifiable parental or guardian consent, and we commit to promptly deleting any inadvertently collected Personal Information obtained without such consent.
For educational institutions governed by FERPA, we act as a "School Official" with a legitimate educational interest, strictly managing and using student Personal Information and educational records as directed by the Customer agreement and applicable law.
We follow the terms set in FERPA §§ 99.31(a)(1).
Parent/Guardian Rights: Parents or guardians should contact the respective Customer directly to request review or deletion of their child's Personal Information, and we will collaborate with Customers to facilitate these requests.
Our Services are hosted in the United States and intended for visitors located within the United States. If you choose to use the Services from the European Union or other regions of the world with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from U.S. law, then please note that you are transferring your personal information outside of those regions to the U.S. for storage and processing.
We may also transfer your data from the U.S. to other countries or regions in connection with storage and processing of data, fulfilling your requests, and operating the Services.
By providing any information, including personal information, on or to the Services, you consent to such transfer, storage, and processing.
Customers have the right to have control over the personal data they own or steward. Customers may request to correct, access, or delete their data by emailing privacy@pangram.com.
Users that are part of a Customer account may contact their organization to exercise these rights, and we will work with that organization to satisfy their requests.
Customers may also request deletion of any of their User's personal data.
Many US states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia, have elected to grant their residents rights to their data. Pangram grants these rights to all US citizens, regardless of where they live.
In most cases, Pangram acts as a data processor (also referred to as a "Service Provider" under U.S. privacy laws), processing data on behalf of our Customers who determine the purpose and means of processing. As a service provider, Pangram does not sell or share Personal Information, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and similar state laws.
As a service provider, Pangram supports its Customers in fulfilling consumer privacy requests, but does not process these requests without direction or approval from our Customers. Consumers should contact the Customer (institution or company) that collected their Information to exercise their rights.
When we receive instructions from our Customers to fulfill consumer requests, we validate the request through our Customer before taking action.
We assist our Customers in fulfilling consumer rights including requests to know, delete, correct, and limit the use of Personal Information by implementing appropriate technical and organizational measures as directed by our Customers.

When processing education records, or Information relating to students, we operate in accordance with our Customers' instructions and applicable educational privacy requirements.
We will post any adjustments to the Privacy Policy on this page, and the revised version will be effective when it is posted. If we materially change the ways in which we use or disclose personal information previously collected from you through the Services, we will notify you through the Services, by email, or other communication.
