What data does Pangram collect?

An overview of the data Pangram collects when you use it.

Last reviewed Jul 24, 2026

Pangram collects only the data it needs to run AI-detection and show you your results. This article explains what we collect, why, where it's stored, and how long we keep it.

What we collect

Account information When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and contact details. We use this to set up your account, provide the service, and support you.

Content you submit When you use Pangram to check a piece of writing, we collect the text, documents, and files you submit for AI detection. This is the core input to our service and is treated as our most sensitive class of data.

Usage activity We record how you interact with the software (for example, the checks you run) so we can operate and improve the product.

Technical and security data We capture your IP address and log login and logout events (with your username and a timestamp) for security monitoring and audit purposes.

Website analytics On our public marketing website, we use Mixpanel and cookies to measure general site traffic. This is separate from the product and does not track your detection activity.

What we do not collect

  • No demographic information
  • No genetic, biometric, or behavioral data
  • No health information (HIPAA) or credit card information (PCI)
  • No location or GPS data

How we use your data

We use your data only to provide the AI-detection service to you and your institution, and to display your results on demand. Specifically:

  • We never sell your data.
  • We never use your data for marketing.
  • We never use your data to train our detection models.

Your privacy rights

You can request access to your personal data, or ask us to stop processing it, by emailing privacy@pangram.com. We handle these requests through our formal Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) process.

Pangram treats submitted data as personal data under GDPR and complies with FERPA, COPPA, CCPA/CPRA, PIPEDA, the UK Data Protection Act, and applicable state student-privacy laws.
